Taking photos for friends is one of the greatest honors. Getting to capture one of my favorite types of sessions—an in-home couples photoshoot—with two close friends made it even more special. These gorgeous, cozy photos of Allie and Mason, along with their two dogs, Gracie and Bronx, are some of my most treasured images.
Allie and Mason have been part of my journey since the very beginning of my wedding photography career, all the way back to my early college years. So when they reached out for engagement photos, I was both honored and incredibly excited! Over the years, they’ve welcomed me into their home while I was traveling between Arizona and Oregon for weddings, so it only felt right to capture their session there. One of my favorite things about their relationship is how Mason makes fresh coffee for Allie every morning on his espresso machine—he even roasts the beans himself! I knew I had to incorporate that sweet detail into their photos.
Why I love in home couples photoshoots –
What I love most about in-home couples photoshoots is how they capture the beauty of everyday life. I wanted to stay true to that sentiment, so I told Allie and Mason I wouldn’t be doing much posing or prompting. My goal was simply to document them in their element—from couch snuggles with their dogs to sharing coffee and wine tasting in the living room. This relaxed, authentic approach led to some of my most cherished photographs of them as a couple. Looking at the images, I almost feel like I could jump right back into those moments.
I highly encourage if anybody can swing it, to book at least one in-home photoshoot in their relationship. Whether you’re just dating, engaged, married or with kids, it’s special to have photos in a place where you make majority of your memories together.
Stay tuned for a separate blog post detailing the second part of their engagements — a sunset photoshoot in downtown Phoenix!
