Harli and Peter’s Portland city wedding was the perfect mix of classic elegance and laid-back, distinctly Portland charm. Their day began at the Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel, where they exchanged vows overlooking the Portland waterfront, before guests made their way across the city for a relaxed rooftop reception at 10 Barrel Brewing. With modern black-and-white wedding style, statement floral arrangements, their sweet pup Remi, and Portland-favorite Doe Donuts for dessert, their celebration was anything but ordinary.
Getting Ready at Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel
The day began at the Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel, a beautiful waterfront setting in the heart of Portland. Having everyone get ready and celebrate the ceremony in one location allowed the morning to unfold naturally, with time for the couple and their wedding party to enjoy first looks and excitement before the festivities began.
Harli’s bridal look was effortlessly classic. Her gown from True Society paired beautifully with the timeless black-and-white palette of the day, while her bridesmaids wore sleek black dresses that created a striking contrast against the white florals. The overall look felt sophisticated and modern.
And, of course, there was one very special member of the wedding party: Remi, Harli and Peter’s dog. Including your dog in your wedding day is such a sweet way to make the celebration feel even more personal, and Remi was an adorable part of their story, especially with her little tutu outfit.
A Waterfront Wedding Ceremony
Harli and Peter’s ceremony took place at the Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel, overlooking the Portland waterfront. The setting offered a beautiful view of the city and river, creating a distinctly Portland backdrop for such an important moment and honoring the state and place where the two met each other.
One of the standout design elements was the couple’s pillar-style standing floral arrangements. These sculptural arrangements brought height and dimension to the ceremony space, with white flowers that complemented the clean, classic aesthetic. Rather than relying on an elaborate color palette, the florals made a statement through their shape and placement.
The combination of the waterfront view, elegant floral pillars, and timeless wedding attire made the ceremony feel both intimate and elevated. It was a beautiful way to begin a day that would take guests from one side of Portland to another.
From the Waterfront to a Rooftop Reception at 10 Barrel Brewing
After the ceremony, guests boarded shuttles and headed to 10 Barrel Brewing in Portland for the reception. The change of scenery brought a completely different energy to the celebration, trading the polished hotel setting for an open-air rooftop and a more casual atmosphere.
The rooftop was a natural fit for Harli and Peter’s vision. With city buildings in the background, string lights overhead, and space for guests to mingle, it offered a relaxed setting where everyone could settle in and enjoy the evening.
Instead of a traditional plated dinner, the couple served light bites, including sliders and pizza, alongside beer and cocktails. The menu kept things approachable and fun, giving guests the chance to grab a bite, enjoy a drink, and spend the evening celebrating together. There were many tequila shots enjoyed as well!
For dessert, Harli and Peter chose Doe Donuts, a beloved Portland staple known for its vegan donuts. It was a fun local touch that fit perfectly with the laid-back reception and gave guests a taste of something special from the city.
A Second Dress and a Night of Celebration
As the evening continued, Harli changed into a second bridal look: a short halter-style mini dress. The switch was the perfect way to change up her look for the later part of the celebration, trading her classic ceremony gown for something shorter and more playful.
I love when brides build little opportunities like this into their wedding day. A second dress can be a fun way to express a different side of your personal style, especially when the reception has a more relaxed atmosphere.
With rooftop views, cocktails, pizza, donuts, and their favorite people all in one place, Harli and Peter’s reception was a reminder that a wedding doesn’t have to follow a traditional format to feel meaningful. Their day was centered on what mattered to them: getting married, spending time with their people, and celebrating in a way that felt true to their lives.
For couples planning a Portland wedding who want something a little different, Harli and Peter’s day is a wonderful example of how choosing two unique venues can create a celebration with variety, personality, and plenty of room to make the experience your own.
