70s Inspired Micro Wedding in Vancouver

December 17, 2022

To all my readers – I have to admit, out of all the special moments I have shot, I swear there is a piece of me that is absolutely in love with micro weddings. The simplicity, the intimacy and the way they say “I want to marry you no matter the circumstances” just pulls on my heart strings.

I remember being so excited to first connect with Sara and Terry from the moment we first talked over zoom on our initial consult. These two have been together for over ten years and they wanted to have their wedding day be intimate and intentional. It was vibrant and colorful and joyful, an homage to their life together. They rented a VRBO in Vancouver and invited their closest friends and family to witness them exchange vows and say “I Do’s”. Sara had a hand in all the beautiful decor, and even hand-made the podium that set the stage for their wedding altar! I love how it had a holder for the bouquet on the front – making it easy for Sara to hand it off and hold hands with Terry during the ceremony.

The entire day had such a perfect dinner party atmosphere. They set up snack trays prior to the ceremony so friends could enjoy something to eat and a drink before the ceremony began. When it was time for nuptials to begin, everybody sat down in the living room and prepared to witness the magic that was Sara and Terry’s wedding ceremony!

The two descended the stairs to the perfect songs and exchanged vows before their loved ones. It was absolutely beautiful and I tried my very best to sneak around quietly and capture it all so I wouldn’t disturb their moment. A friend of Sara’s recorded the ceremony on a professional camera as well so they had the video to always remember their day by. After the Micro wedding was finished we headed to the backyard for group photos and to pop some champagne! I stole Sara and Terry away for some newlywed portraits before they joined their group for their reception. They had decked out the garage to the home to look like a cozy dinner party – complete with twinkling lights, a streamer backdrop and a disco ball. I loved the intimate atmosphere of it all and it was the perfect way to celebrate these two coming together.

This intimate micro wedding was finished with an outfit change, cake cutting and Sara and Terry dancing to More Than a Woman by the Beegees to open up the dance floor. I had so much fun celebrating with these two and will cherish these images from their wedding for a lifetime.
